In order to accomplish the Catalyst Institute’s mission to create, translate, and transfer knowledge that improves the effectiveness and efficiency of the systems that contribute to improving oral health, the CI is engaged in several demonstration initiatives and research projects focused on improving access to, and quality of, oral health care.

Safety Net Solutions (SNS) partners with community health centers (CHC) to utilize electronic dental patient records, computerized practice management systems, expert technical assistance and school/program based portable dental programs to sustain and build community-based oral health programs that are effective and financially viable.

The Oral Health Center (OHC) is an innovative dental practice and a leader in evidence-based dentistry. The practice is located in Southborough, MA and provides care to over 9,000 patients. The OHC uses the latest advances in dental medicine to prevent and treat oral diseases. The site is also home to several national research studies, including one clinical trial, to test the impact of new prevention and treatment models.

The Catalyst Institute, in conjunction with the Boston University School of Dental Medicine and the University of Florida, has created a series of geo-maps of dental practitioners in Massachusetts.

The CI has selected the New England Research Institutes (NERI) to collect oral health information about school children and community dwelling adults in Massachusetts.
