Brian S. Souza
Managing Director

As Managing Director, Brian works with the President and CEO to oversee the Institute's internal operations and external affairs.
Prior to his position with the Catalyst Institute, Brian served as the founding Executive Director of the Boston Partnership for Older Adults, a coalition organization of over 300 institutions and individuals working to improve the coordination and delivery of long-term care and supportive services for older adults. Brian led the Partnership through a competitive planning process which resulted in its selection as one of only eight communities in United States to participate in the Community Partnerships for Older Adults program (Round I), a national initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Brian serves on the Board of Directors of Our Space, Our Place, an organization dedicated to preparing blind youth for a lifetime of success. He also serves on the Steering Committee of the Geriatric Institute of Jewish Family & Children’s Service. Prior appointments have included a three-year term as the Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees of Arlington Street Church, founded in 1729, as well as membership on the Advisory Committee of the Charles H. Farnsworth Trust - Aging Policy Research Fellowship and the Elder Economic Security Standard Project of the University of Massachusetts Boston. Past positions have included Program Manager of Community Care Alliance, a network of community health centers affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Coordinator of Educational Programs, also at Beth Israel Deaconess. Brian has a Master of Social Work Degree in Planning, Program Development and Human Service Management from Boston University School of Social Work and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology also from Boston University.
B. Alex White, DDS, DrPH

Dr. White is the Director of Analytics for the Catalyst Institute. His research interests include dental services research, oral health outcomes, treatment effectiveness, and economic evaluation of dental programs. Dr. White has held appointments at the National Institute of Dental Research (now the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research), the Health Care Financing Administration (now the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (now the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality), and served as Deputy Associate Director for Health and Social Services Policy at the White House. Most recently, he was Senior Investigator and Assistant Program Director, Economic, Social, and Health Services Research, at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, Oregon. There he led a dental services research program using the 185,000-member dental program as a laboratory. In addition, he served as principal investigator for the Oregon Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a five-year, $8 million grant evaluating complementary and alternative approaches for craniofacial disorders. He also served as Director of Oral Research at Tom’s of Maine where he led a program whose goal is to identify and develop natural products that can be used to enhance oral health.
Dr. White received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1979 and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1983 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From 1983 to 1985, he completed a two-year general practice residency in dentistry at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He received Master of Public Health and Master of Science in Health Policy and Management degrees in 1987 from the Harvard University School of Public Health. From 1987 to 1989, he was a Robert Wood Johnson Dental Services Research Fellow at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. In 1992, he received a Doctor of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. White is past president of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry and the Behavioral Sciences and Health Services Research Group, International Association for Dental Research. He is President of the American Board of Dental Public Health and a fellow in the American College of Dentists. Dr. White is a past secretary-treasurer of the Multnomah Dental Society in Portland, Oregon.
Michael Monopoli, DMD

Dr. Monopoli is a 1981 graduate of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He received Master of Public Health and Master of Science degrees from the Harvard University School of Public Health in 1988. Dr. Monopoli also completed a fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the Veterans Administration in 1990. Dr. Monopoli served as the dental director of the Office of Oral Health for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. While at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Dr. Monopoli worked with the department to expand the number and geographic distribution of safety net providers of oral health services and to develop oral health training modules for non dental providers. At Delta Dental, Dr. Monopoli has worked to strengthen public-private partnerships and to develop the Massachusetts Coalition for Oral Health and the Oral Health Collaborative of Massachusetts He is also a steering committee member of the Oral Health Advocacy Task Force. Dr. Monopoli is presently the Director of Dental Public Health Policy of Dental Service of Massachusetts.
Peter Blanchard, BS, DDS, MBA

Dr. Blanchard serves as the President of the Oral Health Center, an innovative, evidenced-based dental practice serving over 9,000 patients. The center is located in Southborough, MA. Formerly, Dr. Blanchard served as the Chief of Dentistry at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and also practiced for many years in General Dentistry. Dr. Blanchard has a M.B.A. in Health Care Management from Boston University Graduate School of Management. He received his D.D.S. from Georgetown University School of Dentistry and his Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University. Dr. Blanchard currently teaches at the Boston University Graduate School of Dentistry. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the National Association of Dental Plans.
Mark J. Doherty, DMD, MPH, CCHP
Safety Net Solutions Project Director

Dr. Doherty serves as the project director for the Safety Net Solutions demonstration project. In this role, he is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the Safety Net Solutions Project. The goal of this initiative is to support oral health programs in community health centers (CHCs) by increasing their efficiency and improving their effectiveness to enhance access and oral health status by computerizing patient records, billing practices, and practice management systems. Dr. Doherty works to create successful partnerships with selected community health centers and trains volunteer dentists who will mentor and coach the CHC dental practice staff after the initial implementation.
Since 1979, Dr. Doherty has served as Director of Oral Health Services at Dorchester House Multi-Service Center where he built a program that includes three separate treatment sites, 18 dental providers, several specialty services, and a staff of more than 40. He directs oral health services at several other facilities, including Dotave, Inc.; Taunton Public School System, and Codman Square Health Center. He has served as a consultant for multiple organizations, including the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Massachusetts Department of Youth Services, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He has appointments at several institutions, including the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston Medical Center, Boston University School of Dental Medicine, and Lutheran Medical Center.
Dr. Doherty received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Holy Cross and a Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a residency in general dental practice through the Massachusetts Veterans Administration Hospital and Harvard School of Dental Medicine and was awarded a Master of Public Health from Madison University.
Dori Bingham
Project Manager, Safety Net Solutions

Dori Bingham is the project manager for the Safety Net Solutions (SNS) initiative. In this role, she participates in all phases of the SNS project. Her primary responsibility is the on-site management of the implementation phase of the projects(s) assuring that all outlined project plans and strategies are being followed. Dori establishes, maintains, and monitors partnerships with selected community health centers and schools to insure good communication and optimal implementation.
For the past 14 years, Dori served as Associate Vice President for External Affairs at the Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton, MA. In this role, her key responsibilities included, among other things, establishing short- and long-range public relations and marketing plans to achieve hospital’s strategic goals; developing, executing, and evaluating public relations and marketing campaigns to enhance overall branding of hospital and increase consumer awareness of individual programs and services; overseeing the hospital’s community relations program; and performing all managerial functions for division, including hiring, training, supervision, coaching and performance evaluations, as well as budgetary and accounting activities.
Dori received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Maine in Orono, ME.
Kelli Ohrenberger
Project Manager, Safety Net Systems Improvement

Kelli is the project manager for Safety Net Systems Improvement. She is responsible for managing a national project designed to train community oral health leaders in how to use the Safety Net Solutions model to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and financial sustainability or oral health safety net programs.
Prior to joining Catalyst Institute, Kelli spent three years at Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton, MA, where she served as the Coordinator and the Interim Director of Public Affairs and Marketing. In this position, she was responsible for implementing marketing and public relations initiatives in fulfillment of the hospital's strategic goals. As such, she executed marketing campaigns, coordinated special events and created marketing collateral, including a community newsletter that reached over 100,000 household's in the hospital's service area. Kelli also coordinated the hospital's Community Education Program, increasing the number and types of programs offered, physician and staff involvement and physician referrals. As Interim Director, Kelli led the department for nearly a year and provided management and oversight of staff, projects, and programs.
Kelli received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising and Spanish from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. She also earned a master's degree in Integrated Marketing Communication from Emerson College in Boston.
Emanuel M. Molina

Emanuel (Manny) Molina is the director of information technology for the Catalyst Institute (CI). In this role, he is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating an information technology strategy in support of the CI goals and objectives. Specific areas of focus involve working closely with internal and external stakeholders, vendors, and consultants to assess and prioritize information technology needs; establish and maintain information technology infrastructure; help stakeholders utilize information systems to improve effectiveness and efficiency; and evaluate opportunities for improvement.
Prior to joining the Catalyst Institute, Manny served as Chief Information Officer and Information Technology Director at Great Brook Valley Health Center in Worcester, MA. There he provided strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation and coordination of all clinical information systems applications along with management of MIS staff. His experience includes evaluation and implementation of healthcare information technologies while continually monitoring and researching opportunities for technological enhancements and further work flow re-engineering in various clinical departments.
Manny received an associate’s degree in computer science from Central New England College and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Northeastern University.
Kristine Brooks

Kristine serves as the Executive Assistant and Clerk for the Catalyst Institute. Prior to joining the Catalyst Institute, Kristine served as the District Administrator at Target Corporation in Danvers, MA. She supported the District Manager in the daily tasks involved with the operations and functions of maintaining eight Target stores north of Boston. Kristine partnered with the corporate Community Affairs department to support the surrounding neighborhoods with grants in areas that improved the Arts and Music. Prior to Target, Kristine served eight years at Charm Sciences, Inc., a Biotechnology corporation that creates diagnostic test kits for the food and dairy industries. Kristine graduated with a Paralegal degree from Fisher College in Boston, MA.
